The ZRP Police commander for Matabeleland North Province, Commissioner Erasmus Makodza, was yesterday nabbed by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on allegations of siphoning police funds through his mistress.
Comm Makodza is alleged to have entered the alleged deal with Mawonei Chapfunda when he was officer commanding Mashonaland East province whom he engaged as a private investor to work jointly with ZRP on its farm in Marondera.
ZACC spokesperson John Makamure confirmed the arrest saying the police commander is expected to appear in court today.
“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission would like to confirm the arrest of a senior police commander,” said Makamure.
“The accused person is charged for criminal abuse of duty as a public officer under Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for concealing from a principal a personal interest in a transaction.
“The accused is alleged that in 2019 as Officer Commanding Mash East imposed his girlfriend as a private investor to work jointly with ZRP on its farm in Marondera.
“The accused caused his girlfriend to enter into a joint venture agreement with his girlfriend with whom he has a child for the production of horticultural products, poultry and other projects.
“It is further alleged that the accused did not declare his personal interest and the transaction was done for his personal benefit,” said Makamure.
Comm Makodza who was recently redeployed to Matabeleland North was last night held at Mabelreign police station and is expected to appear in court today.
