A senior official in the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Deputy Commissioner General, Administration Learner Ncube has said police should exhibit the highest standard of discipline and integrity in the discharge of its duties in line with the expectations of the new dispensation.
He made the remarks after touring some projects being undertaken at Support Unit headquarters at Chikurubi in Harare. Ncube said:
Operationally, the Support Unit is the paramilitary wing of the organisation whose mandate is to support other departments whenever the need arises. It is an important player in the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the country.
The conduct, performance and appearance of a member of the unit must, therefore, be of the highest standard since the community looks upon you as custodians of organisation standards…
I, therefore, implore you to encourage your subordinates to remain dedicated to the unit and to exhibit the highest standard of discipline and integrity so that your character and actions mirror the new brand that the organisation envisages.
Ncube speaks when some police officers have been dragged to court over harassment of the citizenry.
Some human rights watchdogs claim police brutality increased during the coronavirus induced lockdown.
