MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has urged his party supporters to soon take to the streets “peacefully” saying “no gun will stop us”.
In his address at the party’s headquarters today, Chamisa also said that while anger is boiling among the people, “we will continue to pursue genuine dialogue”.
Chamisa’s courage comes less than two years after his supporters on August 1, 2018, took to the streets to protest against a delay in the release of presidential results. As a result, Presidential Guard forces were deployed into the streets and killed six people.
After a national tour of the MDC-A provinces last week, Chamisa said his supporters should be ready. “A revolution is a decision. Anger is growing across the whole country. Anger is going to be a catalyst and fertiliser to a revolution. The young people are frustrated. They are angry because their future has been stolen. We will soon be in the streets peacefully and no gun will stop us,” he said.
The opposition leader said he is also not throwing away an opportunity for dialogue.
“I promised people that we will give peace a chance and we will continue to pursue genuine dialogue requiring dialogue that is bankable, credible and irreversible,” he said.
Chamisa, who still claims he is the rightful winner of the 2018 presidential elections, said his main rival President Emerson Mnangagwa is taking the country back to Rhodesia. He claimed what he is doing was never done by his predecessor, Robert Mugabe.
“If we do not resolve 2018, we cannot have 2023. There has to be proper election in this country and 2023 is far, we need to resolve this political crisis before 2023.
“Of the Constitutional Amendments, Mr. ED Mnangagwa is doing what Mr. RG Mugabe could not even do. Taking our country back to Rhodesia, taking our country back to Smith regime, taking our country back to colonialism by introducing a validation and consolidation of authoritarianism.
“If we do not resolve 2018, we cannot have 2023,” added Chamisa.
