CHIEF magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi has set free Advocate Thabani Mpofu on ZW$20,000 bail.
Earlier on, the State led by Micheal Reza had argued that Advocate Mpofu was a flight risk and he might abscond trial if released on bail.
Reza also argued that there was overwhelming evidence against Mpofu in the form of affidavits and Mpofu initially negligently did not present himself to the police when he was initially asked to do so.
Mpofu’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa argued that the lawyer was not a flight risk.
“The accused has no reason to abscond considering that this matter has been under investigations since early last year,” she said.
Mtetwa added that the State has a weak case against Advocate Mpofu as it does not clearly spell out the manner in which the alleged offence was committed.
Advocate Mpofu is facing two counts of obstruction of justice and an additional charge of perjury and fraud.
